Does your hip hurt — even though you’ve had hip replacement surgery?  Have you been notified that your implant has been affected by a hip replacement recall.  Here’s what you must know about what is going on and what you can do to get help.

Recalls seem to be commonplace these days.  And all sorts of things are being recalled, including cars, children’s toys, and drugs.  And… hip replacement implants.  If you are in pain even many months after your surgery, chances are that you may have received one of those recalled implants.

Why you chose hip replacement surgery

When you decided to get hip replacement surgery, you were probably in great pain to begin with. Since it’s major surgery, most people postpone it until they can barely walk anymore. And you knew going into the surgery, that having a hip replacement procedure could be quite an ordeal.

Surgery is painful, and hip replacement surgery in particular will leave you unable to walk for weeks.  Full rehabilitation can take months.  And that is when all goes well.

But you did it.  After all, the payoff would be worth it.  You would regain…

The ability to walk without pain for years to come.
The ability to participate in sports activities, at least the more moderate ones.
The ability to enjoy playing with your kids or grandkids.

Essentially, you were looking forward to resuming the active lifestyle you enjoyed before your hip started to put you out of commission.

But what if your hip implant was recalled?

Unfortunately, in some cases, things didn’t work out quite so well.  Your hip started hurting all over again, just when it was supposed to be all fixed.

And now, you’ve discovered that the artificial hip implants you have been given have been recalled. They were defective.

It’s bad enough to have car parts recalled, but hip implants?  They’re inside your body!

To swap them out means you have to have surgery AGAIN.

And repeat surgery is usually much harder on the patient and carries more risk. It also usually comes with a recovery period that is even longer than the first one.

Hopefully, the new surgery can fix your problem. Some victims of bad hip implants have discovered to their horror that the bad implant destroyed their bone structure, or caused damage to nerves and ligaments. There have been reports of other problems as well.

As a result, they were going to be in pain for the rest of their lives.  Some patients will be permanently wheelchair-bound as a result of those bad hip implants.

How to get compensation?

And so, if you’re caught up in a hip recall, you deserve to get compensated. And there are laws in place that will help you get your compensation.  Not that it’s an easy road to navigate.  You should make sure you get competent legal advice.  And that you avoid the common mistakes people make when it comes to hip replacement recall compensation that sabotage their cases.
