IOSH Managing Safely – whats it worth?

by admin on August 25, 2010

Having recently sat the IOSH Managing Safely course I felt it worthwhile that I described the overall benefit of managers attending the IOSH Managing Safely course and what the overall day to day use of this was.

Firstly it should be said that the course should be sat by those people who have any responsibility within any type of organisation blue chip, or construction.

IOSH Managing Safely is held over a 5 day period and the 5 days are pretty intense but fun. It enables you to gain a usful insight into the health and safety world but on an enjoyable level, it must be said that health and safety can be a very tedious topic at the best of times so this was a ray of sunshine in terms of health and safety training.

I liked the way it was delivered and the content and course props that were used, it made for a captive audience and the day went rather quickly. Its important you get a good tutor this definitely helps. IOSH have mastered the way to keep people interested I liked it anyway. Most attendees were from a managerial background mainly office based, there were a couple of construction companies but not many there.

Health and safety is quite boring but i would recommend this course to anyone wishing to improve their base knowledge, its not technically difficult just offers a differing persspective and makes you rationalise and think about things before you actually do anything. I found the exercises useful and the 5 days flew by without any problem at all. I’ll be sitting a number of courses over the next few months and will keep you updated as to the content and relative success of these.
