Is my boss Fair ? Is getting terminated the same thing as getting fired?

by admin on March 27, 2011

So here’s the situation :-
My car got involved in an accident and has been sent to the workshop.
I am unable to go to work at my workplace because it is

1) Its location is out of the way in the middle of nowhere
2) there are no busses at that area
3) and the taxi fare is costing $ 25 for going there and another $ 25 for coming back home.I did not think it was reasonable for me to pay this amount of taxi fare for transportation considering how little I get paid there.

I told about my car accident to my boss and she just did not say anything or even bother to ask if I was ok after the car accident.
On the contrary , she still Insisted that I come to work no matter what.
Since there are no busses there and taxi is just too expensive, I just could not go.

If she could just have given me a lift to the bus station I could still go there. But I know she would not ,so there is no use in asking her. I was in a similar situation last year when My car broke down and I had to ask my mother to come and fetch me

So She just terminated me..

Did you think what she did was fair?

1) She has never let me have the day off or allowed me to take any leave. But I know she allows her other workers to take leave.

2) She baby talks her way out of everything and when she doesn’t get what she wants, she gets angry and turn a cold shoulder towards me.

3) I have already been planning to resign but I just kept on working there as a favour to her as she is my mother’s friend.

After all that I did for her, ( I gave her a lift once and I fetched her kids around several times without any obligation when It was her duty ), she could not give me a lift to the bus stop or let me have the day off or put me on hold until I get my car back to go to work.
It is a teaching job.

And to think that we actually bought Cake and Baskin Robbins ice cream for her!

On the contrary, she gave all of us ( me and my co workers ) her old pair of shoes, and clothes ( They are quite good condition but she seldom wears them).
If she genuinely and sincerely wanted to give me something, she should have bought me something new, like a necklace or new pair of earrings or something instead of giving me her old shoes from her own wardrobe edit, am I right?

I mean what sort of a boss baby talks her way out of everything and everybody, and then gives her old stuff away to her workers?
The thing is We all actually like her. I use to like her a lot before she terminated me. Once I bought her pineapple tarts and a box of chocolates- but all that she gives in return are a few dumb oranges and her old stuff.

I have been working there for 4 years and I just got terminated. I just saw my boss’s true colours.

Do you think this is fair?
If she asked me to come back do you think I should say yes or no?

I strongly feel it is time for me to move on to another job, but please let me know what do you think.
Is my boss fair?

Did you think that by terminating me what she did was right?

Is getting terminated the same thing as getting fired?

Bossess don’t have to be fair. They don’t have to be nice, or any of that. There is no law stating this. Don’t expect fairness in the world, it will rarely ever be. I don’t like it, but that is the way it is.

So you shouldn’t be nice either. Fight fire with fire. I say, if you want to pursue it, go to a local TV station and tell them your story. Bring all of your documents, pictures, etc.

    Go for the juggular !!!

Yes, being terminated means the same thing as being fired. You can be fired for any reason, even if it is an bad or unfair reason, so long as it’s not an illegal reason.

Were you given an employee handbook? If so, did she follow the rules in it? It’s not just for employee’s you know, management has to follow it, too. You mentioned leave. Look for a leave policy in the handbook. When she allowed others to take it and not you, that can land her into trouble for wrongful termination at the very least. Then you can still get your unemployment benefits.
