Is stress affecting my baby's health?

by admin on December 30, 2010

Well this is my 1st pregnancy and I’m about 12 weeks along almost 13 weeks and I’ve been having cramps like everyday which I was told is normal, however when I’m at work and get really stressed and p-o’ed at customers I have to talk to on the phone all day with I notice these sharp pains but only when I get stressed which is very easy at my job because it is very stressful. Well I’m intensely worried because I was in a car accident a few years ago and before that had some trauma to my stomach and was told i wouldn’t have babies, well I’m having one! This is a high risk pregnancy and I don’t want anything to happen to my baby. My workplace won’t cut my hours back knowing all this. Should I just quit? We would hurt a little without the money but we would be able to manage. I just don’t want to harm my baby. Anyone else have that sharp pain? Or have any similar experiences?
They won’t let me go on maternity leave early. They said they are too understaffed which is a lie.

Defiantly put the baby and your health first! Talk to your doctor about all of this. If he/she is concerned go with their opinion. Get a note and if your work is still being a jerk about all of it make them fire you. Then you’ll get unemployment or have a damn good case against them. You have rights in this situation. You have to take care of your health and that baby!

I would double check with a doctor. But, stress will affect the baby. And you have to do what is right for you. I would hope that your husband or other half would tell you to stop working because they would want you to be healthy instead of having your work tell you no to cut back hours. I really think you can manage the money thing for a while. Good luck in your gestation.

They don’t have a choice about when you go on maternity leave if it’s within the stated limits. No idea what they are where you live, in Canada it’s 8 weeks before I believe. But, if you take early leave you have to go back early.

Get a doctor’s order to cut down on hours or bedrest.

Yes stress can cause harm to your baby (miscarriage). While miscarriages aren’t as likely after 14 weeks, they still can happen. If you can talk to your boss and let him/her know how you feel. If that doesn’t help any and you said you could manage with/o the job then I would quit. Or find someway while at work to deal with your stress. Maybe get a stress ball and squeeze the daylight out of it when you get upset.
