The disease condition called arthritis usually affects old people. The process of inflammation may progress as the person ages but in some people, the disease condition started with an unusual deviation from the normal immune process of inflammation wherein our own body defense system attacks the joints. Arthritis can be the autoimmune type seen in Rheumatoid arthritis or as a bone deteriorating condition often seen in Osteoarthritis. These two types of arthritis frequently affects the joints people usually use everyday and that is our knees.

Painful joints, swelling, red and puffy hands and easily fatigued hands and feet are some of the symptoms seen in rheumatoid arthritis. There are no cure for arthritis and the disease process continues for a long time, usually for life. Small joints located in the hands and feet are the common areas that is first afflicted by the disease process.

Over 16 million people are affected by osteoarthritis and majority of them are cases of osteoarthritis of the knees. The disease process is almost similar to rheumatoid arthritis wherein the cartilage deteriorates as time goes by and the slow process of degeneration mirrors the gradual progress of joint inflammation as evidenced by the following symptoms: joint tenderness especially in weight-bearing joints such as the knees, knee pain and stiffness during normal physical activities such as walking and standing, grating sounds often heard during movement and impaired joint flexibility. Treatment for arthritis include anti-inflammatory medications, cold and hot compress application, physical activity to promote strengthening of the joints and some major surgical procedures such as knee replacements (partial or total). Ever since Zimmer Holdings, Inc. released their NexGen CR-Flex knee replacement system last 2003, knee replacement surgeries used over 150, 000 of this orthopedic device. However, recent reports about defective cementless version of the NexGen CR-Flex has made many people afflicted with arthritis of the knees worried.

In response to the reports, a recall of Zimmer next generation implants has been issued which can be a good news for those who are afflicted by the disease process. Anyone who endured complications caused by a malfunctioning device such as this can file their case and acquire just compensation.  Interested people can check Zimmer knee replacement lawsuit sites for more information and updates.
